Last summer our family decided that we needed a companion for our cockapoo, Baxter, who often had to stay by himself during the day while we are at work and school. We had gotten Baxter from a breeder but did not want to go thru the puppy phase again, so decided we would adopt a deserving poodle mix this time. (Their personalities, size, and no shedding are a good fit for our household.) After much perusing of the Internet, we found Lil Paws Rescue and Marshall, an 18 month old maltepoo. (Baxter was 18 months old at the time, too.)
Marshall was a stray brought into the animal shelter, and Marian “saved him”. She warned us that, while very cute and loveable, Marshall was an escape artist and a big chewer. As we could describe Baxter the same way, we felt they would get along beautifully. And now we are living happily ever after. We have invested in some strong leashes and LOTS of chew toys along the way (and we’ve had Barbie, hairbrush, and lotion bottle casualties—but we are learning to keep doors closed and put everything out of reach). Marshall is definitely a lap dog—he loves to cuddle. Our family just adores him. He and Baxter still have a little sibling rivalry going on, but they also love to run, and wrestle, and play. Marshall has made a great addition to our family and all is well in the Duncan house!

Not long ago we lost our beloved Lhasa Apso. He was the perfect dog and we were so heartbroken that we thought that we would never want another dog, because no dog could take his place. But, after the grieving process I knew that we needed another dog to love. I started looking online and found the ad for Teddy. Teddy is a Lhasa Apso, and looks a lot like the other dog that we had, and after I read his story I knew that he was the perfect dog for us. I emailed Marian and she told me about what a sweet, little guy he is and I was for sure hooked. We went through the adoption process and I checked my email everyday for word from Lil' Paws. Marian told me that she wanted the perfect home for him and I just prayed it was us. I knew I thought we were perfect, but didn't know if they would agree! We were so excited when it was time to get him. My friends asked why in the world we were going to Cincinnati, Ohio, to get a dog, when there are a lot of perfectly good dogs around here. They didn't understand that he was "the perfect dog for us." I told my husband that "Teddy needed me," and my husband said that "I needed Teddy." So, I guess we needed each other. When we brought him home he was the perfect gentleman. He goes out the doggie door to go potty and has never gone in the house, and he gets along with my cat just fine. They ignore each other. They smelled each other once and that was all. But we are learning fast that while he may look like our other dog (who
was up in years and very inactive), he is nothing like him. He has a mind and personality of his own. He loves to run in the yard and chase birds and squirrels. When we go for a walk, he has to be on a leash because he wants to explore everything!! But, he sure loves us. When we are in the house he is always by our side. He lays on the couch next to one of us or in bed with us. He never goes off to lay by himself if one of us is around. This was the perfect adoption and I want to thank Marian for taking such good care of him, and Valarie and Marian for helping make our adoption go so smoothly.
