Like every good novel that Snoopy writes…."It was a dark and rainy night"….but in this case it really was.   On a dark and rainy November evening in 2005, I made the trip from Lewisburg , OH to Jackson Center .  Little did we know that Miss Pebbles would turn out to be one of the most beautiful rays of sunshine in our lives!  With her big beautiful brown eyes, she kept flashing me looks on the way home as if to say – "Is this the beginning of a wonderful journey for me?  Am I really going home?"  It was love at first sight for me when I saw this Lhasa Apso on the Lil' Paws Rescue website.  Little did we know that she was as smart as she was gorgeous!  Although she did love me – she was, without a doubt, a totally devoted 'daddy's girl' from the moment she saw him.  She walked into straight into the living room and planted herself in front of his recliner – and stared lovingly at him.  When I called her name, she glanced over her shoulder as if to say "Oh yeah, you.  Hey!  Thanks for bringing me to the man of my dreams!" and she turned back to face him again as if I was invisible.  She fell madly in love with him and they were inseparable for the next 2 years.  Our two grown sons would lay on the floor – loving and playing with her.  Many times they lamented that they wish they could have had a dog like her when they were growing up because she was the coolest dog in the world.  We definitely thought so.
In July of 2007, we suffered the cruelest blow possible to a pet owner when we lost her to breast cancer.  It was sad to lose her, but our lives would have been so much sadder if we had never had the opportunity to adopt and give our love to this beautiful girl.  The best part of her story is that we were able to give her the best life possible for her last 2 years on this earth and for that, we are very grateful.  There are many unknowns when adopting a dog from rescue and we were full of questions that could not be answered.  What you learn from the experience of adopting a rescue dog is simply this - whatever facts you know or don't know about the dog doesn't really matter.  What is important is the difference you are able to make in a dog's life and the tremendous love you get in return.  Yes!  It is worth the experience…..even when you lose the best one you've ever had.  We have 3 dogs now and all of them are awesome dogs from rescue.  What a journey!

Wow…how much room do I have to babble about Winston and wonderful Lil Paws Rescue. I will try to sum this up in a few words. I cannot imagine what life was before Winston became part of the Fowler clan. He joined myself and my mother and his two four-legged furry brothers Webster (a 10 lb Yorkie) and Truck (a 90 lb greyhound mix). Webster and Winston have great fun together. Winston is a five-pound ornery little sniglet that does not let the challenge of being blind trouble him. As Nancy Krueger from Lil Paws said, “he is small but his spirit is mighty.” He thinks he owns the place and will let you know it! He even chases birds in the back yard (there has to be some sight in those little eyeballs). He loves to play with socks and has turned by bed into a sock farm. And you should see him play tug-of-war with the big guy! There is never a time that he does not make me smile because of his verve and energy.  I thank God quite frequently for the folks at Lil Paws-for having such huge hearts and the generosity to let him come into my life. He, along with the other two mean the world to me-I wouldn’t be the person I am without them teaching me greater kindness, patience and always making me laugh and smile. Winston is also a very dear treasure to my mother who now lives with me….he is great company for her lap in the evenings!!
Mother Teresa was quoted as saying, “If you cannot feed one hundred people, then just feed one.”
There are way too many animals that need to be rescued. It is a monumental feat to create the awareness that adoption is the way to combat these high numbers. Lil Paws and those dedicated individuals that make up this group, put into practice the words of Mother Teresa, they are rescuing one at a time….THANKS!!!!! Please keep it up. Terri Fowler

Some people just don't know what they have.  Me, My Mom and my dog Chip have adopted the most sweetest little boy in the world.  I went on line to Petfinders.com and was just playing around when I came across Gucci's picture.  It was love at first sight.  He was being fostered by the nicest lady I ever had the pleasure of doing business with.  Her name is Valarie Britt and her family from Lil Paws rescue.  Gucci came to them weighing a little more than five pounds and, when Valarie got him she start feeding him and working with him on his house training (she even taught him some tricks).  He is a healthy nine pounds now and can still use a little weight on him.  I have Gucci a week now and have been giving Valarie an update almost every day.  This foundation is caring and loving of animals.  Gucci was given up six or seven times.  WHY?  I have not a clue, cause he is so good, and what a little love bug he is.  His tail is always wagging and he gives lots and lots of kisses.  I am sorry Gucci had to go though what he did, but I sure am glad I have him now.  Thank you Valarie and your family for also teaching Gucci love, cause he is sharing it with us now.

We’re happy to report that Gypsy is doing so well.  She has fit right in with our family.  She loves the boys and they love her, and we think she is just the sweetest thing ever… we often refer to her as the cutest dog ever!  She loves to bug her “sister” Ella and she will play and play and play…. perfect for a family with two ten year old boys!  She loves her walks, her naps, “hunting” in the back yard, and looking out the front window with her sister to protect the neighborhood from squirrels.  Her “Papa” is probably her favorite person, however, as you can see by the picture of DeWain with her this winter after a walk… she still has her coat on!
We just love this little girl!
We can’t imagine ever getting anything other than a rescue dog in the future
